HISTORICAL COMMISSION

The Emmet County Historical Commission is appointed by and advises the Board of Commissioners in matters relating to history and works to develop historical programs, activities, projects, and services related to our county’s historic properties, oral history, land and marine archaeology, as well as educational and civic interests. The work of the Historical Commission is never intended to conflict with the work of any historic commission created by a city, village, or township in Emmet County.

Length of Term: 3 years, staggered
Purpose: To create a Historical Commission to preserve, protect, and promote historical interests within Emmet County. This is a 9 member Commission. Commission members may be persons who demonstrate an interest in history of the county. Areas of interest/expertise that will be of value to the Commission may be considered. Up to 3 members may be residents outside of the county.


 

HISTORICAL TOUR MAP & CELL PHONE TOUR REVEAL COUNTY’S HISTORY

Two media pieces will take participants on both a road trip and a cellphone tour of Emmet County’s historical sites.

The Emmet County Historical Tour Map features 37 stops, from Petoskey to Cross Village, Mackinaw City to Alanson, and points in between. The OnCell stops can be found at McGulpin Point Lighthouse, the Headlands International Dark Sky Park, Cecil Bay, Pellston Regional Airport, Mackinaw’s Heritage Village, and throughout the historic downtown area of Mackinaw City.
