(September 2022) Emmet County Prosecutor, Jim Linderman, has announced that Gabriel Mattice has accepted the vacant Assistant Prosecuting Attorney position created upon the retirement of Assistant Prosecuting Attorney E. Michael McNamara. Mattice joined the staff on Tuesday, September 6 after his swearing-in ceremony.
Per Linderman, “Gabriel is a great addition to our team. His experiences from private practice will provide a more rounded view of his caseload. Additionally, his experience with Sobriety Court in Manistee is an immeasurable asset to our office and the community at large with Sobriety Court and Veterans Court in Emmet County.”
Mattice attended Michigan Technological University where he earned a chemical engineering degree. Additionally, he earned his Juris Doctor from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Mattice has been a licensed attorney since 2010 and is licensed not only by the Michigan State Bar but Washington State Bar as well.
Mattice recently moved to Petoskey, Michigan from Manistee, Michigan where he had been working since 2018. He served in private practice and as an Attorney Magistrate and Court Administrator of the 85th District Court.
Mattice stated, “I’m very excited about being part of the Emmet County community!”
Prior to his work in Michigan, Mattice volunteered for a few years at Housing Justice Project in Seattle, Washington. He worked under the guidance and support of Judge Barbara Harris and his supervisor, Gwenn Remmen.
During his off time, Mattice taught karate and English in Japan for free as a Vice Instructor of Shofukan Karate Schools in Tachibana Japan. Classes were provided at a small fraction of typical martial arts school costs as a service to the under-community Kancho Eiji Satou.
