POSITION SUMMARY:
The Billing Clerk 1 position is responsible for processing patient care reports for the purpose of seeking reimbursement from insurance companies and patients for the services provided by the EMS department. This position includes handling private patient information and complying with all privacy and insurance billing regulations. The position also requires processing payments for claims filed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Answering phone calls, taking messages and handling correspondence from patients and insurance companies.
- Responsible for processing incoming patient care reports and assessing for completeness.
- Communicating with providers, patients, and other healthcare agencies to gather accurate information for billing of services.
- Processing patient care reports for billing in a timely manner.
- Processing incoming insurance and patient payments.
- Generating regular financial and claim status reports.
- Ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Participating in regular training to stay current on EMS billing practices.
- Performing other duties as directed or assigned by the Supervisors or the EMS Director.

- Must have knowledge of current medical billing rules and regulations for compliance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associates degree or completion of formal certificate program in Medical Billing and Coding preferred.
- Previous Medical Office or EMS billing preferred
- 2+ years of experience with electronic data entry or electronic records systems
- Previous customer service experience
- 2+ years of office/administrative experience with proficiency on Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
