POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of complex court compliance tasks involved in monitoring a variety of bond and compliance orders for District Court criminal and probation cases.  Provides information and assistance to law enforcement officers, attorney, defendants and Court patrons. District Court staff are cross-trained whenever possible. District Court Compliance Officer will be required to work in the criminal, probation, or other divisions/areas of the Court as assigned. Provides direct back up to District Court Probation Clerk when needed. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide in-take and installation for SCRAM alcohol monitors (ankle and portable) and GPS tether monitors for District Court bond and probation.
  • Provides monitoring and collections for SCRAM alcohol monitors and GPS tether monitors. 
  • Provides timely updates to criminal clerk and probation officers on compliance with court orders. 
  • Testifies in court hearings as needed regarding monitoring. 
  • Coordinates and monitors drug screens for District Court bond and probation. 
  • Coordinates community service work for District Court probation. 
  • Coordinates compliance requirements, including but not limited to Alcohol Highway Safety Class and Economic Crime Class.
  • Monitors collections for all compliance and criminal cases with outstanding balances owed to the court. 
  • Creates payment plan arrangements with defendants. 
  • Completes filing into probation and criminal files, including closed files and maintaining filing process.  Assist other Deputy Clerks in record retention and filing in vault maintenance.
  • Receives paperwork from law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and defendants to complete file requirements.
  • Answer the telephone and direct court patrons to the appropriate person or department for assistance.
  • Process mail and court paperwork, affixing a date stamp to all incoming paperwork.  Review mail for direction to appropriate staff or filing.
  • Operates a computer terminal to enter, update, correct and access case information; and to produce computer generated forms.
  • Document case activity and other pertinent case information on Court documents and in the computer; maintains case histories, address changes/verification on each case accessed.
  • May be required to check people in for court and/or jury duty.  Monitor the courtroom to assist people in finding appropriate department, retrieve paperwork for probation department.
  • Distributes a variety of legal documents to the appropriate parties and agencies.  Maintain the forms necessary to efficiently process paperwork, report any ordering needs and printer/fax maintenance needs.
  • Uphold confidentiality requirements.
  • Perform work safely.
  • Attend training and seminars as requested.
  • Assists in other areas of the court as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Requires organizational skills, attention to detail with precise computer entry work.  Effective communication skills, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and possess good telephone and counter etiquette.

Must become proficient in the science and technology associated with drug screens and alcohol and GPS monitoring. 

Ability to work with difficult situations, assisting the public in a calm, polite and efficient manner.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Monitoring equipment (ankle and portable), computer, copiers, fax machine, scanner, shredder, and other general office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical demands of the job include, standing, sitting, hearing through instruments, speaking and vision.  Indoor work with some lifting of file boxes and general office paper/files with general office noise. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five years’ experience in the Court, criminal justice, legal, or similar field. Associates degree preferred.
