MARINE DEPUTY (seasonal)

POSITION: Marine Deputy (seasonal/part-time)
DEPARTMENT: Sheriff’s Office
SUPERVISOR: Road Patrol
RATE OF PAY: $20.50 per hour
END-OF-SEASON BONUS: Seasonal staff, who meet the criteria for attendance and job performance, will qualify for a bonus based on seasonal hours worked

POSITION SUMMARY:
To educate the public on marine safety, and patrol County waterways in order to enforce the Marine Safety Act.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Patrols by land and water County lakes to enforce water safety regulations and to perform boat inspections
• Prepares accurate written records and reports
• Instructs the Department of Natural Resources approved marine safety course to 12-16-year-old students
• Inspects boats in liveries that are rented to the public
• Maintains assigned boats and equipment as directed
• Prepares monthly reports on livery inspections, boating safety schools and DNR audits
• Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Sheriff, Undersheriff or Lieutenant
• Maintains contact with the Sheriff’s Office acknowledge receipt of dispatches, and responds to emergency situations
• Appear and/or testify in civil or criminal cases

• Must be able to operate a powerboat up to 30 feet in length
• Must be a proficient swimmer

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 
• High school diploma or equivalent required

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED: 
• Must complete 40 hours of training approved by the Department of Natural Resources
