Advisory Committee on Aging
The Advisory Committee on Aging will meet on Wednesday, June 22, 202t 10:00 a.m. in the Board of Commissioners’ Room, 200 Division Street, Petoskey, Michigan.
Did you know the disk of our galaxies is warped? Have you ever wondered what the night sky will look like in the distant future? In this presentation, Rod Cortright, NASA/JPL Ambassador, will summarize discoveries made by the Gaia space observatory.
This space observatory has been on station for nine years now. Its mission is to create a three-dimensional star map of the Milky Way galaxy to answer questions about our galaxy’s composition, formation, and evolution. The Emmet County Land Bank Authority will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the commissioners’ board room, across from the treasurer’s office, on the first floor of the County Building in downtown Petoskey, 200 Division Street. The meeting is open to the public. Those attending must enter through the Lake Street doors and be prepared to pass through a metal detector and security check. The Mars Perseverance Rover has been exploring the Jezero Crater on Mars for over a year now. In this presentation, Rod Cortright, NASA/JPL Ambassador, will summarize this mission’s discoveries so far. This is a hands workshop on using a stock lens and digital single-lens reflex or mirrorless cameras to take great night sky images. Astro-photographers, Rod Cortright and Mick Grozko, will discuss essential equipment and camera setting for taking night-sky photos.
Since this is a hands-on workshop, it will require suitable photographing conditions. Therefore, participants will need to have flexible schedules. If conditions are unfavorable on Wednesday evening, the workshop will be rescheduled for Thursday or Friday evening of that week. Watch the Headlands Facebook page for rescheduling information.
At minimum, participants must bring a DSLR or Mirrorless camera and a tripod to this workshop.
