FREE AIRPLANE RIDES FOR KIDS THIS SATURDAY
Free airplane rides for kids will be offered this Saturday, August 13, at the Pellston Regional Airport from 9 a.m. until noon. The free rides are being offered by the Harbor Springs chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association for children ages 8 to 17. Local licensed pilots who are members of the chapter are donating their services and their airplanes for this event.
Parents must accompany their children to the airport to register for the free flights. After their flight, each young person will receive an EAA pilot logbook and a certificate signed by the pilot.
The airport entrance is located on US-31 just north of the Village of Pellston. The Young Eagles program will be conducted at the small general aviation terminal located south of the much larger main terminal used for scheduled airline service.
If unsafe weather conditions cause the event to be cancelled, it will not be rescheduled.
The free rides are part of a nationwide program called “Young Eagles” launched 30 years ago to introduce kids to aviation and inspire them to think about the many possibilities associated with flight. The EAA recently recognized the Harbor Springs chapter for participating in the Young Eagles program continuously since its start in 1992.
Since the program’s inception, more than 2 million young people nationwide have enjoyed a free introductory Young Eagles flight. The flights are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.
