Emmet County Parks and Recreation Board will meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 12:30 p.m. at the Equestrian Center of the Emmet County Fairgrounds, 1129 Charlevoix Ave., Petoskey (unless otherwise noted). Emmet County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority meets on the second Thursday each month at 11 a.m. in the office of Planning and Zoning (suite E) inside the John R. Watson Community Resource Center, 3434 Harbor-Petoskey Road, Harbor Springs. The meeting is open to the public. Emmet County Planning Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. for its regular monthly meeting in the commissioners’ board room, across from the treasurer’s office, on the first floor of the county building in downtown Petoskey (200 Division Street). The meeting is open to the public. All members of the public must enter through the entrance on Lake Street and be prepared to pass through a metal detector and security check. Emmet County Sheriff’s Office will hold snowmobile safety classes again in 2020. The free six-hour course is taught by a certified snowmobile safety instructor and is followed by an exam. After successful completion of the exam, the student is issued a Snowmobile Safety Certificate.
The first opportunity to take the snowmobile safety course will be Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Richard Zink Road Patrol Building, 3460 Harbor-Petoskey Road, Harbor Springs. The course will also be held Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Eppler Road EMS station, located at 1201 Eppler Road, Petoskey. Both classes run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Those interested in taking the free course must be at least 12 years of age. Adults are welcome.
Please bring a pencil and your own lunch. Class size is limited to 25 students. Pre-registration is required. Please call (231) 439-8900, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. to sign up for the class. The snowmobile safety class is also available online at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources website.
