Astrophotography with a DSLR or Mirrorless Camera
Jul 6 @ 8:30 pm

This is a hands workshop on using a stock lens and digital single-lens reflex or mirrorless cameras to take great night sky images. Astro-photographers, Rod Cortright and Mick Grozko, will discuss essential equipment and camera setting for taking night-sky photos.

Since this is a hands-on workshop, it will require suitable photographing conditions. Therefore, participants will need to have flexible schedules. If conditions are unfavorable on Wednesday evening, the workshop will be rescheduled for Thursday or Friday evening of that week. Watch the Headlands Facebook page for rescheduling information.

At minimum, participants must bring a DSLR or Mirrorless camera and a tripod to this workshop.

Free Airplane Rides For Kids
Aug 13 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

FREE AIRPLANE RIDES FOR KIDS THIS SATURDAY

Free airplane rides for kids will be offered this Saturday, August 13, at the Pellston Regional Airport from 9 a.m. until noon.  The free rides are being offered by the Harbor Springs chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association for children ages 8 to 17.  Local licensed pilots who are members of the chapter are donating their services and their airplanes for this event.

Parents must accompany their children to the airport to register for the free flights. After their flight, each young person will receive an EAA pilot logbook and a certificate signed by the pilot.

The airport entrance is located on US-31 just north of the Village of Pellston.  The Young Eagles program will be conducted at the small general aviation terminal located south of the much larger main terminal used for scheduled airline service.

If unsafe weather conditions cause the event to be cancelled, it will not be rescheduled.

The free rides are part of a nationwide program called “Young Eagles” launched 30 years ago to introduce kids to aviation and inspire them to think about the many possibilities associated with flight.   The EAA recently recognized the Harbor Springs chapter for participating in the Young Eagles program continuously since its start in 1992.

Since the program’s inception, more than 2 million young people nationwide have enjoyed a free introductory Young Eagles flight. The flights are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.

Intelligent Life in our Universe?
Aug 17 @ 8:30 pm

Join us at the Waterfront Event Center on August 17 at 8:30 pm for a discussion and presentation on the possibility of extraterrestrial life. Recently, there has been a lot of media coverage about UFOs. This presentation will explore several questions. First, what defines intelligent life (would we know it if we saw it)? What is the probability of life in our galaxy, and what are the important factors and current estimates of those values (the Drake Equation)? Finally, if intelligent beings are out there, why aren’t we hearing from some of them (The Fermi Paradox)? For more information, please call the programming and sales coordinator at (231) 348-5479 or email [email protected].
