Goodbye Summer Car Show

Emmet County Parks and Recreation is hosting a car show at the Emmet County Fairgrounds on Sunday, September 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A variety of makes and models will fill the fairgrounds for automobile enthusiasts to appreciate at this Goodbye Summer Car Show! Admission to the event is free for the general public. Entry fee is $10 per vehicle. There is no early sign-up period. Gates open at 9 a.m. the day of the event for vehicle registration. Trophies will be awarded to the Best of Show, Best Modern Car, and Best Classic Car around 12:30 p.m. with door prizes given out during the day. Food vendors will also be on site. Halloween Weekend at Camp Petosega

Reserve your campsite online now and join us for one of our super fun Halloween Weekends on Saturday, October 2, or on Saturday, October 9! Park staff will be giving an award to the Best Decorated Campsite so campers are encouraged to spruce up their sites to get in the Halloween spirit! Trick-or-treating will take place from 5-7 p.m. with vehicle traffic restricted during that time through the campground. Emmet County Parks and Recreation staff will have free hot dogs, chips, and drinks near the campground office followed by a free Haunted Trail open 7-9 p.m. All activities are weather-permitting and the general public is welcome to come out and join in the fun! (NOTE: Camp Petosega only accepts online reservations made at least seven days in advance. Emmet County EMS Food Drive

Emmet County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is holding a food drive on Saturday, Oct. 23 for the Pellston Area Food Pantry and the Church of Straits food pantry in Mackinaw City. EMS staff will be collecting nonperishable food items from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Walmart on Anderson Road in Petoskey as well as at Pinecrest Village, 450 S. Nicolet in Mackinaw City. EMS will have an ambulance in the parking lot at both locations where donated items can be dropped off. For those who may be unable to contribute on Oct. 23, EMS staff has conveniently set up boxes in the lobby of its station on Eppler Road in Petoskey. Nonperishable food may be donated there Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., up through Oct. 22. Please contact Emmet County EMS at (231) 776-1000 with any questions.
Autumn at McGulpin Point

What a great time of the year to visit Emmet County’s northernmost park, McGulpin Point Lighthouse and historic site. Don’t miss this chance to see the one-of-a-kind view of the tree-lined Straits of Mackinac and Mackinac Bridge from the lighthouse tower on this final open day of the year. Join park staff for complimentary tours of the lighthouse along with hot cider and donuts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23.
If you can’t make it for the October 23 event, the lighthouse and gift shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 15, Oct. 16, Oct. 17 and Oct. 22.
