GENERAL ELECTION NOTICE – – QUALIFIED VOTERS
The final date to cast a ballot in the 2020 General Election is Tuesday, Nov. 3, when Springvale Township voters will be able to vote in person from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Springvale Township Hall, 8198 E. Mitchell Road, Petoskey.
However, you don’t have to wait until Nov. 3 to vote. All registered voters in Michigan can now vote using an absentee ballot. You don’t need an excuse or a reason. You can also go to your city or township clerk’s office or drop box to return your absentee ballot, which is recommended if you are returning a ballot after Oct. 19, in order to avoid possible postal delays. For more information about casting an absentee ballot, click here.
Springvale Township residents who are not already registered may register to vote online here or at the office of the Township Clerk, the Emmet County Clerk’s office, a Secretary of State branch office, or other designated state agency. Registration forms can be obtained at mi.gov/vote and mailed or emailed to the Township Clerk. Voters can also update their registration and access other election information at the Secretary of State’s website. Persons with disabilities needing accommodations should contact the clerk.
The last day to register in any manner other than in-person with the local clerk is Monday, October 19, 2020. After this date, you may register to vote in person with proof of residency (MCL 168.492) by contacting the Springvale Township Clerk at the following times:
• Normal business hours: Make appointment with the clerk at (231) 347-0526 cell
• Saturday, Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 1 from noon to 3 p.m.
• Election Day, Tuesday Nov. 3 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Property owners in Northern Michigan – please help save our Hemlocks! The Hemlock is an evergreen tree that blankets the northern Michigan landscape. The tree is under threat from the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, a small insect that feeds upon the stored energy reserves at the base of Hemlock needles. If the trees are not treated, the actions of this pest can kill a tree in 4-10 years. If you have Hemlocks on your property, please review further information about this issue and consider filling out the survey form.
The Permanent Absent Voter Ballot Application List is a list of individuals who have requested to be included in a mailing of applications to vote as an absent voter (rather than at the voting in the polls on Election Day). The application must be returned and approved prior to receiving a ballot. You are no longer required to give a reason for voting absentee. (Previously individuals were required to mark a reason for requesting an absent voter ballot, such as “60 or more years of age, disability/ illness, out-of-town”.) The List is available to all registered voters in Springvale Township.
If you are interested in being on the Permanent Absent Voter Ballot Application List and have not yet requested to be on this list, contact Pat McCune (Springvale Township Clerk) by email at [email protected], or phoning (231) 347-0526, or mailing written request to Springvale Township. Please include your request, your name/s, your phone number/s, and/or your email.
