2019-01-15: Sheriff Press Release

On Sunday, January 13, 2019, at approximately 3:14 p.m., the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office responded to a structure fire at the Camden Kade Rental Units, at 7063 U.S. 31 N. Alanson, MI., according to Sheriff Pete Wallin. When deputies arrived they observed one of the rental units fully engulfed in fire. Deputies made sure all the residents of the unit were safely outside but were advised there were two dogs still inside. Deputies were able to break out a window to save one of the dogs, and firefighters from the Alanson Fire Department found the other dog under a couch and brought it outside. Both dogs were in good condition and taken to Bay Area Pet Resort. The investigation alleges that Robert Dean Jakeway, age 54, Alanson, MI., set fire to his residence and assaulted a person, who was at his residence, prior to the residence catching fire.

On Monday, January 14, 2019, the Emmet County Prosecutors Office issued a four-count felony warrant for Robert Dean Jakeway. One count of Second Degree Arson, one count of Arson – Preparation To Burn A Dwelling, one count of Assault With A Dangerous Weapon (Felonious Assault), and one count Weapons – Felony Firearm.

Jakeway was arrested at the scene on Sunday, January 13, 2019. Bond has been set at $100,000 cash. Jakeway remains lodged in the Emmet County Jail and is set to be arraigned on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 12:30 p.m., in 90th District Court.
