2017-09-05: Sheriff Press Release

On Monday, September 4, 2017, at approximately 1:50 p.m., Emmet County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a possible intoxicated driver at the Ellsworth Party Store, on Pickerel Lake Road, Springvale Township, according to Sheriff Pete Wallin. Upon arrival, the suspect vehicle, Chevrolet Pickup Truck, had left the scene, according to witnesses, and the driver Cameron Moore, was intoxicated and possibly armed with a firearm. The suspect vehicle and driver, was located at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Seldon Road, Springvale Township, stopped in the middle of the roadway. The suspect vehicle took off and was pursued by Deputies. The suspect vehicle finally pulled into a private driveway on Ellsworth Road and struck a tree. Officers approached the vehicle and the driver, who was identified as Cameron Moore, age 18 yrs., Brutus MI. exited his vehicle, and started approaching the Officers with a knife, stating he was going to kill them. Moore was advised to drop the knife, but refused to do so. Moore was taken into custody after being subdued with a Taser.

Cameron Moore was transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital for medical clearance. Moore was then taken to the Emmet County Jail and lodged on the following charges: Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder, Fleeing and Eluding 3rd Degree, Resisting and Obstructing, Concealed Weapon Violation, Felonious Assault, and Operating While Intoxicated.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, Tuscarora Police Department, Petoskey Department of Public Safety, and Emmet County EMS.
