Schmidt Sentencing

Emmet County Prosecuting Attorney James Linderman announced that on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, Defendant Walter Richard Schmidt, was sentenced in the 57th Circuit Court on the two counts of Possessing Child Sexually Abusive Material, one count each of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime and Stealing or Retaining Without Consent of a Financial Transaction Device stemming from his guilty plea on June 21, 2016.

Circuit Court Judge Charles W. Johnson handed down a consecutive sentence for Defendant Schmidt to the Michigan Department of Correction for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 4 years with credit for 99 days on the Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material charges, a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 7 years on the Computer Crime charge, and a concurrent sentence of 6 months on the Financial Transaction Device charge.
