The Register of Deeds welcomes the public to come in and search the land records kept in the vault any time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. To protect these valuable land records, please refer to the Vault Rules that are now posted below:
REGISTER’S VAULT RULES
NO cameras or electronic devices, including laptops, IPads, scanners, copiers, or any other computer equipment, will be allowed unless an exception is made by the Register of Deeds. ALL cell phones and smart phones must be inspected and approved by the Register of Deeds before entering the vault.
NO food or beverages are allowed in the vault area
ONLY PENCILS are allowed – NO pens, markers, or any other permanent writing tools are permitted.
Pages may NOT be removed from the books.
Records may NOT be removed from the vault.
You must ask for employee assistance when seeking microfilm. Most images are digitized and available by computer.
These rules are intended to protect vital records and have been adopted under authority of Michigan Penal Code _492.
Pursuant to Michigan Penal Code_491, any person you willfully carries away, mutilates or destroys any such books, papers or records, or any part thereof, is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment of up to 2 years or a fine of up to $1000.
