2015 photo contest: EMMET COUNTY WILDLIFE
Photo contest announced for 2015!
The beauty of Emmet County extends beyond the sky, waters and landscape views that surround us each day in Northwest Michigan. There is an abundance of diverse wildlife here, too, that lives among our forests, waters and fields. We want to see your photos of these beautiful creatures that live among us!
To celebrate our unique wildlife resources, Emmet County is holding its third annual photo contest, Emmet County WILDLIFE. This follows on the heels of the successful SKIES and WATERS contests, which drew hundreds of photographic entries. The winner of 2014’s WATERS contest was Linda Gall, with her stunning photo of Petoskey’s Bear River in winter.
Here’s how the Emmet County WILDLIFE contest will operate: Now through November 30, 2015, please send your Waters photos via email to email@example.com
Please include location where photo was taken with your submission. Residents and visitors are welcomed to participate, but the photos MUST be taken within the boundaries of Emmet County. The contest does include Lake Michigan and the Straits of Mackinac including and to the west of the Mackinac Bridge.
Photos will be judged by expert photographers, including Shawn Stockman-Malone, whose extraordinary images of the Northern Lights in the Upper Peninsula have circulated the globe and have been published in dozens of digital and print media outlets. Malone has been a guest speaker at the Headlands International Dark Sky Park as well. Emmet County staff will also be part of the judging team.
What’s in it for the winner? The winning WILDLIFE photo will be framed and matted for the winner to keep; it will also be printed on photo board and displayed in the Emmet County Building downtown Petoskey. In addition, the winner will receive two free overnights on a camp site or in a cabin at Camp Petosega on Pickerel Lake in Alanson.
Image size should not exceed 10MB for emailing. Amateur photographers only, please. Participants agree that Emmet County may use the submitted photographs in county promotional materials at any time without notification.
If you have questions about the Emmet County Waters photo contest, call Beth Anne Eckerle, County Communications Director, at (231) 348-1704 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
2014 WATERS winner: Linda Gall
After looking over more than 100 entries for our Emmet County WATERS 2014 Photo Contest, we’ve found our winner! Among our panel of judges, this photo by Linda Gall of Gaylord of the Bear River, taken around Thanksgiving time, was our collective favorite. Congratulations to Linda — she wins a framed print of her image and an overnight at the Guest House at the International Dark Sky Park, where she can further put her photography skills to practice in a most beautiful environment!
Gall said she was in Petoskey shopping when she came across the view of the Bear River surrounded by the newly fallen snow, and snapped away. She submitted just a day or two before our Nov. 30 deadline for submissions. A hobby photographer, she has been involved with the Charlevoix Photography Club recently and enjoys taking landscape photos of the beauty in Northern Michigan. “We all just need to slow down and take it all in,” Gall said.
Thanks to all who participated and stay tuned for details of our 2015 Photo Contest: Emmet County WILDLIFE! We’ll be looking for your best wildlife images from Emmet County. Stay tuned for contest details after the first of the year.
