Long-time CCE/9-1-1 dispatcher remembered for his expertise and dedication to emergency services

One of the first dispatchers hired at Charlevoix-Cheboygan-Emmet (CCE) 9-1-1 Authority’s Petoskey headquarters has passed away unexpectedly. Vaughn Noble, of Springvale Township, was found deceased at his home Monday, March 21.

Bob Bradley, CCE Director, said Noble was a valued member of the dispatch team and staff are reeling from the unexpected loss.

“You know, we do this every day, deal with emergencies and families who experience loss. It’s very hard now that it involves one of our own family members,” Bradley said.

Noble celebrated his 20th year of working for 9-1-1 as a dispatcher just recently, on Friday, March 18. He was one of the first dispatchers hired and trained before the system went live in June 1996. Prior to joining the 9-1-1 staff, Noble was an EMT and Bradley said he maintained close friendships with many emergency medical providers in the area who are mourning his death.

In addition, his regular communications with regional emergency service providers connected him to many throughout Northwest Michigan.

“In the 20 years he worked here, he gained such a wealth of knowledge and could anticipate the needs of officers and firefighters and EMS in the field,” Bradley said. “He ran his crew very well and he was always jumping in to assist.”

On a number of occasions, Noble shared his knowledge with school students who visited the facility while touring each year with Emmet County staff. In early March, a group of Crooked Tree Youth Leadership students learned about the technical and human-relations aspects of being a 9-1-1 dispatcher from Noble, as he had done many times in the past.

“The kids always just flocked around him and he was very knowledgeable in sharing his expertise with anyone touring the facility,” Bradley said.

Service times have been set by Noble’s family. Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 27 and 12 to 1 p.m. on Monday, March 28, with service to follow – all at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey. The CCE/9-1-1 Facebook page will be updated with information as needed.
