The Emmet County Correctional Facility currently has a capacity of 103 beds. The inmate population consists of male and female, sentenced and non-sentenced inmates, committed to the custody of the Sheriff for civil, misdemeanor, or felony charges.

The correctional facility operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, with staffing of a Jail Administrator, four sergeants, thirteen correction officers, and a variety of support staff and volunteers. Our primary goal is to run a secure facility that is safe for both staff and inmates. The correctional facility is governed by the Michigan Department of Corrections Administrative Rules for Jails. Our facility has been recognized as being in compliance with these rules from 2003 – 2010.

Emmet County Sheriff's Office received a 100% compliance rating on its annual jail inspection

Sheriff Peter A. Wallin is pleased to announce that on January 4, 2011, the Emmet County Sheriff's Office received a 100% compliance rating on its annual jail inspection. This is the seventh year in a row the Emmet County Jail has attained this perfect rating. The inspection is done annually by the Michigan Department of Corrections County Jail Services Unit.

This perfect rating again is a reflection of a job well done by Jail Administrator Brenda Ford and her corrections staff at the Emmet County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Wallin noted the number one liability for counties is it's jail. This is proof again that Emmet County is providing a safe and secure jail system to serve the public, the inmates, and their families.
