ELECTION RESULTSWith the announcement this week by Emmet County Prosecuting Attorney James Linderman that he intends to retire mid-term effective February 29, 2024, attention turns to the appointment of a successor County Prosecutor. Under Michigan law, the judge of the judicial circuit in which the vacancy occurs – here, Emmet County’s 57th Circuit Court– is empowered to appoint a mid-term successor Prosecuting Attorney. With this process in mind, 57th Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Deegan is calling for interested individuals to apply to be appointed as Emmet County’s interim Prosecuting Attorney for the balance of the current election term. The person appointed will work out this election term – through 12/31/2024. They will be required to run for election in November and if they win, will then be the County’s next Prosecutor.
