Emmet-Charlevoix County Fair

Record year for the 2010 County Fair!

New, exciting events, old favorites and beautiful weather helped the 2010 Emmet-Charlevoix County Fair set attendance and revenue records.

Agnes Shaw, Fair Manager, reports that paid gate attendance was up approximately 20 percent from 2009 figures. Gate admission was collected from Tuesday, Aug. 24, through Saturday, Aug. 28, which means that those who attended the sold-out Monster Truck Show and the Lipizzan Stallion Shows, plus those who visited on Monday, Aug. 23, and Sunday, Aug. 29, were not counted in gate attendance figures.

Attendance at the Monster Truck Show, a fair first, was 3,000, Shaw said. About 500 people attended each Lipizzan show. In addition, every grandstand event from Aug. 24-Aug. 28 saw increased attendance by at least 15 percent or more.

The Market Livestock Auction also enjoyed record attendance, and gross sales were up $20,000 from 2009. There were 50 percent more steers in the program this year, which contributed to the gross sales increase.

“The 2010 Fair was a huge success, with great numbers enjoying our fair and all it has for everyone to enjoy,” said Shaw. “And the weather helped as well.”
