NOW ACCEPTING CREDIT AND DEBIT OPTIONS FOR FINES AND FEES

Residents who wish to make payments to Emmet County 90th District Court using credit and debit cards may now do so through GovPayNet.

GovPayNet accepts major credit and debit cards for payments 24 hours a day, seven days a week on-site, online (www.govpaynow.com) or by phone, (888) 604-7888.

www.govpaynow.comCardholders can make payments on their own behalf or on behalf of friends or family. They need only have some basic information regarding the payment, including the 90th District Court's code for payment, which is PLC 6796.

Cardholders pay a fee to GovPayNet at the time of their transaction (3.5 percent Internet service fee, minimum of $3.50; phone service fee 5 %, minimum $5).

Improving the convenience of the public’s transactions with the Emmet County District Court means more frequent and timely payments, increased agency revenue and reduced expenses.
“Consumers won’t have to wait until they can get to a bank to bring in cash or a certified check, which will increase our efficiency in receiving payments,” according to Lisa Smith, District Court Administrator.

GovPayNet can be used to make timely payments on a wide range of obligations, including cash bail, court fines and costs and traffic tickets. It accepts major credit, debit and pre-paid debit card brands — MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover.

“The consumer pays the fee for using the service,” said Mark MacKenzie, CEO of GovPayNet. “On the next business day, we reconcile the day’s payment with the government office and then electronically forward payment in full to the agency’s bank account.”

GovPayNet, based in Indianapolis, is the category leader in accepting credit and debit cards, on behalf of consumers, to government agencies. More than 1,400 agencies in 43 states rely on GovPayNet to process payments from nearly a million consumers annually. In 2009, GovPayNet processed over $100 million in payments to government agencies.
