Spring 2015 Grant Awards

The Local Revenue Sharing Board announced grant awards for the Spring funding cycle 2015. In total, the board awarded $110,000 to fulfill all or a portion of 16 different funding requests.

Serving on the LRSB are Emmet County Commissioner Dan Plasencia; Bear Creek Township Supervisor Dennis Keiser; and Resort Township representative Don Caird. Applicants must be sponsored by a local taxing authority (i.e. townships, villages, the county, schools).

The grants amounted to $110,000 and were awarded to:

  • Emmet County Planning and Zoning — Anderson Road trail extension project, $7,500
  • Emmet County Communications — Essence of Emmet magazine Vol. 3, $5,000
  • Emmet County-Harbor Hall — Gambling addiction treatment programs, $25,000
  • Emmet County-Northern Community Mediation — Truancy program, $1,325
  • Emmet County EMS —  Training mannequins, $5,000
  • Emmet County Community Corrections — SCRAM devices, $2,500
  • City of Petoskey — 39, 45-minute self-contained breathing apparatus, $10,000
  • Resort and Bear Creek Township — Ten sets of turn out gear, $15,000
  • Village of Pellston — New playground equipment at Pioneer Park, $2,775
  • Village of Mackinaw City Police and Fire Departments — Equipment, TurboDraft Fire Educto and three dash-mounted radars, $3,500
  • Harbor Springs Public Schools — Equipment to build kinesthetic classrooms for students, $2,500
  • Littlefield Township Fire Department — 11 sets of turnout gear, $10,000
  • Pellston Public Schools – After school math tutoring with transportation, $5,000
  • Bliss Township Fire Hall – Emergency generator for fire hall, $5,000
  • Bear Creek Township for Petoskey State Park – Increase ADA parking, improve ADA restroom, add ADA tables, $3,000
  • Springvale Township Fire Department – Turnout gear, $6,900

In total, the LRSB had funding requests totaling $419,717 from 24 different entities.

Spring 2014 Grant Awards

For the Spring funding cycle 2014, the LRSB awarded $148,000 to fulfill all or a portion of 17 different funding requests.

Under its compact with the state of Michigan, the tribe is required to give 2 percent of net revenues from its electronic gaming operations to the regional community. Funding priorities have been public safety, recreation and education. Applicants must be sponsored by a local taxing authority in order to apply for grants.

  • Emmet County – Communications, help with publication costs of Part II Essence of Emmet History magazine, $5,000
  • Emmet County – Northern Community Mediation, software for computers, $4,734
  • Resort-Bear Creek Township Fire Department, chest compression device, $21,000
  • Bear Creek Township (Petoskey State Park) – Repair for boardwalks at Petoskey State Park, $3,000
  • Bear Creek Township – Pathway at Spring Lake area, $5,000
  • Springvale Township – 2 automatic AED devices, $3,086
  • Littlefield Township, Alanson Fire Department – Turnout gear for volunteer firefighters, $15,000
  • Village of Mackinaw City Fire/Police – Tracking kit, a rescue toboggan sled and spotting scope, $5,000
  • Bear Creek Township/road commission – Tannery Creek storm water and flooding abatement engineering plans, $13,940
  • Little Traverse Township – Harbor Springs Airport new fuel farm tanks and remove old ones, $10,000
  • Pellston Public Schools – After-school tutoring for math students, $5,610
  • Village of Pellston – Safe passage for pedestrians to and from schools, $5,000

Spring 2013 Grant Awards

The Local Revenue Sharing Board of Emmet County, which distributes a portion of electronic gaming revenues from Odawa Casino each year, awarded $224,300 for 2013.

Under its compact with the state of Michigan, the tribe is required to give 2 percent of net revenues from its electronic gaming operations to the regional community. Funding priorities have been public safety, recreation and education.

Serving on the LRSB are Emmet County Commissioner Dan Plasencia; Bear Creek Township Supervisor Dennis Keiser; and Resort Township Supervisor Bob Wheaton. Applicants must be sponsored by a local taxing authority (i.e. townships, villages, the county, schools).

  • Harbor Hall, $30,000 for gambling treatment
  • Health Department of Northwest Michigan: $15,000 for a safety and security system
  • Camp Petosega, $30,000 for a playground
  • Northern Community Mediation, $4,600 for a school attendance program
  • Emmet County Communications Department, $10,000 for a county history magazine series project
  • Petoskey Public Schools, $4,000 for public safety related to the all-night senior party
  • Mackinaw City Schools, $8,000 for public safety/security
  • Pellston Fire Department, $6,000 toward an add-on bay at the fire hall
  • Springvale Township Fire Department, $1,000 for back up camera/first engine
  • City of Petoskey, $33,000 for a baseball field at Petoskey High School
  • Resort Township, $9,500 for AED units
  • Resort Township, $10,000 toward a playground at East Park
  • Bear Creek Township (Petoskey Popwarner), $5,000 toward Popwear equipment
  • Bear Creek Fire Department, $30,000 for fire prevention training trailer
  • Bear Creek Township (Petoskey State Park), $2,700 to help make the beach universally accessible
  • Bear Creek Township (Petoskey State Park), $9,000 for a utility vehicle for the park
  • Littlefield Township (Alanson Fire Department), $1,500, water hose purchase for fire trucks
  • Cross Village Township, $5,000 toward a pavilion at Sturgeon Bay
  • North Central Michigan College, $10,000 for college readiness coach support
