History
The first recorded Sheriff of Emmet County was Thomas Smith in 1855. He served until 1859. There have been 22 Sheriff's since then. The only Sheriff to lose his life in the line of duty was Sheriff Will Purple who was killed while attempting to attach property(an automobile) on a circuit court order.

Sheriff Peter A. Wallin
Sheriff Wallin was appointed by a three member board after the death of Sheriff Jeffrey P. Bodzick. Sheriff Wallin began with the Office as a road deputy in 1981, later being appointed to the position of Undersheriff by Sheriff Bodzick. Sheriff Wallin is also a long time resident of Emmet County.

Undersheriff Timothy E. Roth
Undersheriff Roth was appointed to this position by Sheriff Wallin in 2002. Prior to that, he served 10 years as a deputy sheriff, five years as Det/Sgt., and three years as Road Lieutenant. Undersheriff Roth has been serving since 1984.

Jail Administrator Brenda K. Ford
Administrator Ford was appointed by Sheriff Wallin in 2003. Prior to this position, Administrator Ford served as a Corrections Officer and has been with the Office since 1996. She is a life long resident of Emmet County, graduating from Harbor Springs High School.
